Brown Rice in a Pressure Cooker

Dinner time
Tonight's dinner was wonderful.  I first prepared brown rice in the pressure cooker (PC), then I make a delicious Lemon, Garlic, and Herb Chicken also in the PC.  The post for that recipe will be coming soon.  So stay posted.

I purchased a 1 pound bag of brown rice, which usually equates to 2 cups of rice.  Then I got out my handy pressure cooking guide that I downloaded from Chef Brads website.  Chef Brad is another advocate of the PC.  As you can see the cook time is 14 mins per stove top PC (which I have).

Brown rice calls for 2 cups water to 1 cup brown rice.  We will also add about a tsp of oil (you can use butter also).  The oil is to keep the foaming to a minimum.

Place all of the ingredients in the PC and secure the lid.  With the stove on high the pressure will start to build in the pressure cooker.  The button will pop up to let you know it is at pressure.  Once it is at pressure you will turn the heat down to low.  This is also when you will start timing.  So I started a timer for 14 mins.

A pressure cooker gets really hot inside and that is why it takes less time to cook.  After the timer sounds take the PC off the heat and release the pressure using the fast release method.  You can see that I am pulling my valve up so that the pressure is released.  Please BE CAREFUL.  This can be hot.  I would suggest using a hot pad.

The rice is fully cooked and makes about 4 cups of rice.

Doesn't this look wonderful.  So plump and moist.
